Show & Tell [Part 2]: School Net fact-checking projects in India & Indonesia
Three more schools will discuss their achievements and challenges so far
In last month’s ANNIE Connect on April 19, two schools from Indonesia (Universitas Airlangga and Universitas Multimedia Nusantara) and one from the Philippines (De La Salle University-Dasmariñas) shared their experiences in the ANNIE School Net project.
In our upcoming ANNIE Connect on May 17 from 10:30 to 11:30 UTC+8 (click here to register), we will continue the show-and-tell session with three more schools and discuss how their projects are going.
Presenters
School: Politeknik Tempo (Indonesia)
Presenters: Rachma Tri Widuri, Richard Kannedy, and Ariadne Khatarina Moniaga
Brief description: Fifteen students who are members of the Korste-Politeknik Tempo’s Press Community were trained in various fact-checking tools and techniques from March 1 to May 3, 2024. They will produce their prebunking and debunking articles and videos for the website cekfakta.politekniktempo.ac.id.
School: Rumah Belajar Semi Palar (Indonesia)
Presenter: Leo Amurist, KPB Smipa Program Coordinator
Brief description: The KPB Smipa is a community-based educational initiative designed for adolescent students attending Rumah Belajar Semi Palar, which corresponds to a high school level of education. Among other things, students learn how to verify facts under the project name Teman Periksa Fakta (Fact Check Friend).
School: School of Journalism and Communication, O.P Jindal Global University (India)
Presenters: Professor Venu Arora, Sheikha Mariyam Sam, and Uddantika Kashyap
Brief description: The student-led Fact Check Lab will be hosted at The Centre for Media Development and Communication Rights at the university. At present, there are eight students who have enrolled in the program, and it is anticipated that this number will grow when the Fall semester begins in August.
